Blending technical expertise with integration leadership

Taposh Bhattacharya is Independent Consultant with a-connect who brings together over 25 years of experience across engineering, scientific industries, and life sciences, with a focus on pharmaceutical integration and divestment projects. Known for combining structured project management with practical business sense, Taposh helps clients navigate complex transitions with clarity and confidence.

To give you a closer look at Taposh and his consulting approach, we spoke with him about his professional journey, what motivates him, and how a-connect supports his work.

Can you provide a brief synopsis of your professional background?

Taposh:

“I’m a qualified chemical engineer by training and began my career over 25 years ago as a project manager in the engineering sector. From there, I moved into the scientific industry, and for the last decade, I’ve focused on pharmaceutical projects.

My work spans a wide variety of areas, but over the past five years, I’ve specialized in business development, helping companies integrate or divest pharmaceutical portfolios. That kind of work draws on both my technical background and my business experience, which I really enjoy.”

What brought you into consulting versus working in-house?

Taposh:

“Going freelance was always part of my plan, but my path led me through ten years in the pharmaceutical industry first, which gave me strong sector expertise. When that chapter closed, I finally moved into independent consulting and dusted off my old plans. That’s when I was introduced to a-connect through a recommendation and from the first project, it was a natural fit. What makes it work so well is that both a-connect and I focus on high-complexity projects where hands-on leadership matters. It’s not just about advising; it’s about implementing, stabilizing, and delivering value quickly. Since then, we’ve stayed connected, and I’ve been part of a steady stream of projects.”

What motivates you most about working with a-connect and our clients?

Taposh:

“It’s the combination of meaningful projects and the people involved. These aren’t routine assignments, we really support clients through complex, knotty challenges, acting as partners rather than external advisors. That balance of domain expertise and change management capability is what makes a-connect different from a traditional consultancy.

Just as important, I value the team dynamic. The colleagues I’ve met through a-connect are genuinely collaborative. It’s not competitive, everyone is truly focused on helping the client. a-connect brings together a great group of people who care about delivering real results in a supportive environment.”

Do you have a particular highlight or “win” from working with an a-connect client?

Taposh:

“One project that stands out involved managing a business divestment where our team didn’t just support the transition, we actually stepped in and ran part of the operation for a period. We helped stabilize the business, ensured operational continuity, and handed things over smoothly to the new owners.

That’s the beauty of working with consultants who combine business experience with consulting skills. We can both design the plan and step in to execute it when needed. That dual capability, being able to think strategically and operate practically, is where I feel
a-connect consultants really stand out.

In this case, it meant understanding, running, and then training the new owners on the business, all while ensuring nothing slipped through the cracks. It was a full-cycle engagement: takeover, execution, and handover. That level of trust and operational integration is exactly the kind of work I enjoy.”

When you’re not consulting, what’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?

Taposh:

“Outside of work, I really enjoy being a dad. I have two teenage sons, though they’re growing more independent now.
As for hobbies, I play the drums! It’s my way of letting off steam after a busy day. I’m not particularly skilled, but it’s great fun. Interestingly, it’s now my sons asking me to keep the noise down, rather than the other way around.”
