Tom:
“I started my career in industry, in insurance and financial services, where I held leadership roles of increasing complexity. Working across different functions gave me a broad foundation in how organizations operate internally.
From there, I moved into consulting, where I was able to apply that experience to a wider range of organizations and challenges. A lot of that work translated well into life sciences, as both are highly regulated industries.
Over the past 10 years, I’ve focused on large-scale programs, supporting companies in areas like accelerating time to market, managing complex technology initiatives, and adapting to new regulatory requirements, with several programs delivering more than $100 million in impact.”
Tom:
“The first part of my career was in leadership roles within companies, where the work can be very high-pressure.
Consulting gave me the opportunity to step into new environments, work with different stakeholders, and take on a wider variety of challenges. It’s a way to do something new while still building on your experience.
Moving into independent consulting strengthened that even further. It removes some of the internal pressures you see in larger consulting firms and allows you to focus more directly on what the client actually needs.”
What motivates you most about working with a-connect and our clients?
Tom:
“What stood out to me right away was how strong the connection of a-connect to the client already was. When I joined, there was a deep understanding of the organization, which made it much easier to ramp up and start delivering impact quickly.
At the same time, there’s a high level of trust and autonomy in how you deliver. You don’t have to navigate a lot of internal complexity; you can focus on doing what’s most effective for the client.
I also think the independent consulting model creates better alignment with the client’s interests. You can be more flexible in how you approach challenges and focus on solving the right problems rather than filling capacity.”
Tom:
“One engagement comes to mind where we were supporting a transformation towards more agile ways of working.
During the project, an urgent operational issue arose. We used this as an opportunity to pilot the approach we were establishing for the broader transformation and apply it in a very targeted way.
By resolving the issue within a few weeks, we were able to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach in a tangible way and build confidence for scaling it across the wider program. That made a real difference. For me, it’s a good example of how solving immediate, tactical problems can create momentum for much larger change.”
Tom:
“Maybe not surprising if you know I’m based in Colorado, but I spend a lot of time outdoors; skiing, hiking, playing golf or basketball, or simply spending time outside with friends.
It’s a good balance to the work. Being outside and away from technology helps me reset and recharge, especially during more intense project phases.”
